A multi-storey, steel framed Storage King warehouse was constructed in Minchinbury. Bowsers was required to fire rate the structural steel throughout the warehouse.
Scope of works included application of vermiculite fire spray to structural steel columns to provide a 4 hour fire rating (240/-/- FRL) and fire seals to various service penetrations to provide a 4 hour fire rating (-/240/240 FRL).
The application of vermiculite fire spray is a specialised process requiring Bowsers’ highly trained experts. Our team ensured the correct coverage of vermiculite fire spray was applied to all areas of the steel. Due to the height of the columns, specialised height access was required and Bowsers’ employees are fully trained and licenced to use elevated work platforms.
63 structural steel columns required fire rating to ensure the structural stability of the facility in the event of a fire. The columns ranged in height from 6.6m to 8.9m. Furthermore, full height access was required to ensure the columns could be correctly fire rated.
All works were completed on time and in budget with the construction manager very satisfied with the final outcome.
